Women's Basketball: Lobos prevail in tournament opener

Guards Antiesha Brown and Sara Halasz combined to score 29 points in New Mexico’s 59-37 victory over Western Carolina at the Miami Hurricane Tournament on Saturday.

UNM (5-5) went into halftime down 20-18 and the game remained tight in the second half as neither team could take over. The Lobos finally pulled away after Halasz hit a 3-pointer for a 41-31 lead with 6:52 left in the game.

WCU (6-5) managed to score only six more points as UNM turned the tight tout into a blowout winning by 19 points which is its largest margin of victory this season.

Makensey Campbell was the only Catamount to score in double figures with 11 points to go along with eight boards.

The Lobos shot 39 percent for the game while the Catamounts hit just 29 percent of their shots.
UNM resumes play on Sunday at 1 p.m. for in the championship game of the Miami Hurricane Tournament against Miami.
