Bryce Yazzie, a sophomore general engineering major, rides his skateboard through Smith Plaza on Wednesday afternoon.

Show me how: to ride a skateboard

culture@dailylobo.com

Many UNM students find skateboarding to be a quick and easy way to get around campus. Bryce Yazzie, a freshman chemical engineering major, shows us how to get started. As always don’t forget to wear protective gear.

Step 1: Place your dominant foot near the front of the board — about three-fourths of the way.

Step 2: Place your other foot about shoulder-width away from your front foot.

Step 3: Practice balancing on the board and pushing off with your back foot. It is helpful to use the support of a wall while starting off.

Step 4: To turn, shift your weight onto your toes or heels and bend your knees while moving. Try to keep the rest of your body straight while in motion.

Step 5: Drag your non-dominant foot on the ground to stop.

Step 6: Practice, practice, practice!
