Letter: There's no 'justice for all' while racism stills exists

Editor,

If the Ferguson white cop Darren Wilson had killed an 18-year-old unarmed white youth, would the grand jury have indicted the cop?

If the cop had been black and if he had killed an unarmed white youth, would the grand jury have indicted the black cop? If the 18-year-old unarmed had been the Ferguson mayor’s son or from the richest family in town, would the grand jury have indicted the cop who killed him?

If James Boyd here had been the brother of a U.S. senator and if the Albuquerque cops who killed Boyd had known that, would they have killed him?

If Alan Gomez had been the son of Governor Martinez and if the cop who killed him had known that, would that cop have killed Alan Gomez?

The same for the 20-some other victims killed by APD in recent years. Would the cops have done their damnedest to de-escalate the crises without killing?

To you who stand and say the U.S. Pledge of Allegiance, do you believe this nation has liberty and justice for all? Do you know any low-income people of color who believe this nation has liberty and justice for all?

Do you know any fair-minded, justice-loving whiles who believe this nation has liberty and justice for all?

Sincerely,

Don Schrader
