Editor,
The Republican letter to Iran stinks. Netanyahu’s speech to Congress also stinks, as does Elie Wiesel’s presence there. The American practice of vilifying Iran, dealing with them unfairly, specifically after it is American President Eisenhower who started their nuclear program, stinks.
What also stinks is Jew-baiting. Blaming 9/11 on Israel in 2015 is one example. That hurts. The result is that now, as an American Jew, I either can be a good, loyal Jew and defend Israel, but also be criticized as having my loyalties stronger toward Israel than to my American nationality, or be critical of Israel, a traitor Jew and a crazy outcast.
If there were to be a nuclear attack (and not even from Iran) on Israeli soil, the number one victim is the Palestinian people. That is the definition of injustice, to be punished for someone else’s crimes. And that is one reason why an unjust Israeli government just won yet another round of elections, because they’ve mastered playing the fear card and the race-baiting card.
Sincerely,
Rachel Hertzman
