Mixer event gives young pro opportunity to network

The MiABQ Millennial Project and The Young Professionals of Albuquerque are organizing the first-ever city-wide young professionals mixer event, coming Friday.

The event will provide an opportunity for young professionals in the Albuquerque area to meet colleagues, network, mingle and join a new organization if not already involved with one, the organizers said.

“This will be a great opportunity for young professionals and UNM community to get involved with the wide variety of organizations in Albuquerque, and network with other professionals and colleagues,” said Jaclyn Myers, social committee chair for the Young Professionals of Albuquerque, a non-profit organization.

Also scheduled to appear alongside MiABQ Millennial Project and Young Professionals of Albuquerque are representatives from several other Albuquerque young professional organizations, including Active 20-30 Club, Future Fund, Urban Land Institute Young Leaders, Junior League of Albuquerque, Women in Design: New Mexico and many others.

“We want to retain the younger generation by instilling a culture of professionalism, empowerment and participation among these groups. We are also very proud to be giving back to the community,” Myers said.

Zoya Dixon, program manager at MiABQ, said the event will provide a good platform for the UNM students to get together with other young professionals from the city.

The event is presented by ABQ Free Press with additional sponsorships from Siarza Social Digital, HDIC, Century Sign Builders, Oh, So Natty, Albuquerque Sol FC and First Mortgage Company.

“It will be a fun event. There will be drink specials, complimentary appetizers and a raffle featuring fantastic prizes. All proceeds will directly benefit The Storehouse downtown,” Myers said.

More than 750 people have already registered for the event, the organizers said.

“The Millennial population residing in Albuquerque is very active and enthusiastically engaged in developing into the next generation of leadership for the Albuquerque community. I believe that we are getting there the right way, through professional development, community service and hosting professional networking events like this mixer, where everyone who attends feels welcome, wanted and worthwhile,” said Andrew Valencia, president of Young Professionals of Albuquerque.

The MiABQ Millennial Project is a self-guided group of young professionals under 40 years of age who are interested in the revitalization of downtown Albuquerque, according to a press release.

The Young Professionals of Albuquerque is a local professional non-profit organization operated completely by volunteers, according to the statement.
