Crime Briefs for March 9

Domestic violence, assault against a household member

On the morning of March 1, an officer was sent to 933 Bradbury Dr. SE in reference to a potential domestic dispute, according to a police report. Upon arrival, a female told the officer she walked to her car near her workplace to pick up lunch for herself and a few co-workers when she noticed her ex-boyfriend’s car in the parking lot. She said she felt fearful, as he was physically abusive with her in the past.

She said she rushed to her car and locked the door, only to be unable to drive away because her ex-boyfriend parked his car behind her.

He exited his car, approached her car and began striking the window, demanding that she roll it down to speak with him. When she refused, he picked up a large rock and hit the window with it in an attempt to break the glass. The female called several of her co-workers to step outside of the building to help her while all of this was occurring.

According to the report, one of her co-workers exited the building and informed the male that police were on their way, at which point he entered his vehicle and began to leave. When the co-worker entered the female’s car, they attempted to move the vehicle to another part of the parking lot, only to realize her ex-boyfriend was following them until he finally left the lot.

The co-worker escorted the female into the building, and they called police. After the call was dispatched over radio, two undercover officers working in the area, pursuing auto burglaries/thefts, located the male in his vehicle northbound on University Boulevard. The vehicle was stopped in the CNM parking lot.

The man was taken into custody and later arrested for domestic violence, assault against a household member. His vehicle was towed.

The female created a handwritten statement of the incident and was given a domestic violence packet. She stated she already had the packet, as there have been numerous violent incidents involving her ex-boyfriend.

No further information has been obtained. The male was booked without injury or incident.

The resident said she saw one of her roommate’s friends sitting on a bench when she left her dorm room, but he was no longer there when she returned.

She said, although she does not associate with or know her roommate well, she does not suspect her of any involvement. There are currently no witnesses or suspects.

Residential burglary at Casas Del Rio

On March 3, an officer was dispatched to Casas Del Rio’s Chama building, in reference to a burglary, according to a UNMPD report. After arriving and speaking with the victims, the officer discovered that a student arrived at his room late in the evening, leaving the door unlocked, because his roommate did not have his key.

When his roommate arrived at the dorm, he noticed a few items were missing. He decided to wake the other student up and call police. The students said keys, a hard drive, a hat and a money clip were missing, and no one had permission to enter their room.

Another student reported a white male with a baseball cap entered her room without permission, apologized, said he entered the wrong room and left. The officer continued to investigate and found that a male (who did not appear to be a student) was wearing a baseball cap and walking around the building.

When officers conducted a search, the subject was seen leaving the building. The subject began running through a neighborhood, and, after a chase, was found on the roof of a nearby home. The subject was taken into custody and transported to the UNMPD station.

The stolen property was found on a stairwell on the building’s first floor and returned to them. The suspect was identified and booked under residential burglary.
