Crime Briefs for March 2

Commercial Burglary at UNM Lobo Club

On Feb. 18, an officer was sent to the UNM Lobo Club athletics facility on 1414 University Blvd. SE in reference to a burglary call, according to a report. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the caller, who said he was the last person to leave the building the night before but noticed a large window on the west side of the building was broken. He said, upon entering the building, no one was present and nothing of value was taken. The caller found a jar of change, but when the officer tried to take fingerprints, the transferred print was unusable. It appeared the suspect(s) committed the theft of petty change. The case is inactive and pending further leads. No information on offenders is available at this time.

Intoxicated Fraternity Student Removed from SUB

On the afternoon of Feb. 25, an officer was dispatched to the SUB, due to an intoxicated student, according to a report. When the officer arrived, the student was already being treated by AFD and Albuquerque Ambulance. There was a Greek life banquet and awards ceremony occurring in one of the ballrooms at the time. The UNMPD officer saw the student appeared intoxicated, as the student was vomiting. A Greek life representative said the student was part of the Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity. The representative said other fraternity members were also intoxicated, and Greek life would address the issue. The student was transported to UNMH for alcohol poisoning. No further action was pursued.

Criminal Trespass at UNMH

On Feb. 20, an officer was called to UNMH while on uniformed patrol, due to a subject causing a disturbance and refusing to leave, according to a UNMPD report. When the officer arrived, security officers (who said she was behaving violently) were pinning a female to the ground. When UNMPD asked her to sit up, she appeared intoxicated, appearing unfocused and feeling the need to start fights and shout obscenities when seeing or speaking about the hospital staff.

She demanded a place to stay overnight at the hospital. For roughly 15 to 20 minutes, the officer attempted to calm her down and have her leave the premises. She refused. The officer said she would be arrested if she did not start leaving, but she then used profanity directed at the officer. She was asked to put her hands behind her back, because she was under arrest. The two officers on scene helped her stand and proceeded to handcuff her. She was searched — officers discovered a bottle of hand sanitizer and a miniature bottle of red wine.

The woman cried and demanded to leave. She was identified after being placed in the back of the officer’s vehicle. She was given a citation for Criminal Trespass, and was taken to the MATS Detox Program at her request and was turned over to MATS staff without incident.

Disorderly Conduct at UNMH

On Feb, 25, a UNMPD officer was sent to UNMH due to a disorderly subject, according to a report. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the subject who refused to leave the hospital. UNMH staff asked him to leave multiple times earlier after he bathed in the sink in the men’s restroom. The officer attempted to help the subject change his mind by offering to drive him home and then gave him a lawful order to leave. This prompted the subject to yell profanities at the officer.

The subject was arrested and taken to the Prisoner Transport Center and booked for Disorderly Conduct without incident or injury. The case is closed and cleared by arrest.
