Abuse of a Child at UNM Children’s Campus
On Feb. 13, a mother entered the UNM police station to report an incident that occurred on Feb. 1, according to a report. She told police when she picked her son up from the UNM Children’s Campus at 3 p.m, she spoke with his teacher, who said the child had a good day. When the mother and her child walked to their vehicle, they saw another staff member returning to the campus on the school bus. The child wished to say goodbye to her, so the two waited. The child hugged the staff member, who also told his mother her child had a good day.
The woman’s husband was scheduled for an appointment at the UNM Sleep Center. After entering their vehicle, she and her son met him there. While in the exam room, their child stood up and said he would like to show them something. The boy pulled his collar down, revealing a bruise on his chest. When his mother asked how he was injured, the child said he and a friend were using Legos when a teacher grabbed him and sat him down. When his mother asked which teacher it was, before revealing her name, the boy said, “the mean one.”
Domestic Violence Battery on a Household Member at UNMH
On March 5, two UNMPD officers were dispatched to the New Birth room at UNMH, in reference to a potential domestic violence battery, according to a report. During the call, UNMH security stated a male struck his wife, a female patient, in the face during a dispute.
When the officer entered the room to interview the woman in the hospital bed, several items were messily strewn across the floor, and the officer noticed two cuts on the left side of the woman’s head. The female, who was in the hospital because she gave birth the day before the incident, said she and her husband were fighting because she did not wish to return to Pena Blanca with him. She said he hit her once, causing cuts and a bruise. Despite a struggle, she said she did not hit him back. Instead, she said she hit the nurse button, telling them she needed security.
When the officer spoke with a nurse, who was the first to arrive when the patient pressed the button, he said when he entered the room, her husband was standing in the hallway, and the female was in her bed and bleeding from her head. The nurse said he used a cold towel to stop the bleeding. He said the woman told him the injury resulted from her husband hitting her.
Domestic Violence Battery on a Household Member at WisePies Arena
On March 9, event staff at WisePies Arena informed an officer of a physical altercation occurring on the south side stands, according to a UNMPD report. The officer ran to investigate after noticing several individuals were moving toward the concourse area. When the officer reached the concourse, a male stated he had wanted to speak with his girlfriend after he saw her with a different male. The male said he “threw the first punch,” hitting the other male who was with his girlfriend. At that point the other male’s family members began throwing punches at him, causing him to swing wildly in self-defense, he said.
The female (a minor) stated the male stepped down the stands and pushed the other male. When she tried to stop him, she was punched in the face, she said. The victim was unsure of how many times she was hit. The officer noticed she had swollen lips and a raised bump on her forehead, both on the right side of her face. When she was taken to paramedics, a soft, raised bump was also identified on the back of the right side of her head.
After speaking with witnesses, the officer collected statements, including one that indicated the male came down the steps, pushing the other male, and it appeared he intentionally punched the female in the face at least once before continuing to attack the other male.

On March 12, an officer was sent to Lobo Village in reference to a burglary, according to a police report. When the officer arrived, a resident said she left town around midnight on Saturday, and with her roommate’s knowledge, left the door to her room unlocked. Later, the roommate called, stating the apartment was burglarized.
When the roommate who was out of town returned to the apartment, she noticed some items were missing from her room, such as clothing, jewelry and items from a backpack.
The roommate who did not travel said she returned home from work at roughly 9:40 pm and left the door unlocked, because her roommate’s friend was going to stay the night. Upon arriving home, she went to her room and took a shower. She said she did not notice food items were out of the kitchen cabinets and drawers were open—she decided to enter the other roommate’s room and saw the space in disarray. The female called and reported the incident to an RA.
