What is it like to conduct international field work as a biologist? Undergraduate Xena Mapel was awarded a National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates fellowship and traveled to the Solomon Islands archipelago in the South Pacific to survey its biodiversity in 2017. She discusses her first field work trip in a recent UNM Bioblog.
Xena Mapel is a Biology senior undergraduate student. She studies avian phylogeography and malaria in the South Pacific and passionately despises mud. She can be contacted at xmapel@unm.edu.
