NM students flock to UNM with science on the brain
Thousands of middle and high school students from around New Mexico will swarm the UNM campus tomorrow at the New Mexico Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement Inc. Jamboree.
The jamboree is an academic competition where 2,000 students from more than 30 school districts vie for trophies and bragging rights in categories designed to test students' knowledge and creativity, said Brendon Gordon, western region coordinator for NM MESA.

Bids are due back today for the construction of UNMH Children's Hospital and Critical Care Pavilion.
According to Sam Giammo, the UNM Health Sciences Center director of public affairs, the hospital will choose a bid in mid-July.

University administrators are making some changes.
Judy Jones, UNM vice president for institutional advancement, has held her position since 1998 and has been employed at UNM for 16 years. She will take another position at UNM as the associate vice president for strategic initiatives at the Health Sciences Center on April 12.
Double-felony law stirs abortion debate

Congress passed a bill last month to make violent crime against pregnant women a double felony, holding assailants legally responsible for the mother and her unborn child.
The bill has generated much controversy among pro-choice supporters, who see the Unborn Victims of Violence Act as a direct threat to abortion rights for women.

UNM students are frequently asked by professors to participate in collaborative projects designed to be educational, but many students say they are more of a burden than anything.
