Physical altercation between professor and student
On Nov. 21, UNM Police Department was dispatched to Dane Smith Hall in reference to battery. According to the report, a professor told a student that their conversation was over, due to the student’s behavior and began to walk away. After the student grabbed the professor by the shoulder, the professor walked away again. The student then blocked the professor’s passage to the stairway in the atrium of Dane Smith Hall. The professor said the answer to the student’s original question was “no†to get the student to move out of his way. The student moved slightly and followed the professor to his next class saying “you need to watch yourself.†When the professor entered his next class, the student hit the glass door of the classroom. The details of the original argument were not outlined in the report. A criminal summons will be forwarded to Metro Court.
Woman yells at and spits on students
On Nov. 15, UNMPD was dispatched to Zimmerman Library in reference to a battery. According to the report, two students were studying in the library at about 2:45 p.m. when a woman next to them began to yell obscenities at them, including calling them “dykes.†The victim alerted library staff and security. While security left to call police, the suspect approached the victims and spit on one of the students then threw her coffee toward the other one. The suspect has been identified by name and is not a UNM student. The suspect left the scene prior to UNMPD’s arrival and no further action has been taken.
Victim present while wallet and phone taken from her car
On Nov. 19, a report was made with UNMPD in reference to an auto burglary. According to the report, a woman parked her car near Carrie Tingley Hospital at about 3:30 p.m. While retrieving items from the passenger side of her vehicle, someone entered her car and took her phone and wallet from the driver’s side seat. A canvas search around the area was conducted and no suspects could be identified.
Book thief stopped outside Zimmerman
On Nov. 20, UNMPD was called in reference to larceny from Zimmerman Library. According to the report, a Zimmerman security guard noticed a suspicious man on the second floor of the library. At about 8 p.m., the man left the library with several books that had not been checked out. The security guard and a staff member followed the suspect until UNMPD caught up with him at the UNM Hospital entrance. Without being questioned, the suspect admitted to taking the books. Eight books belonging to the library were recovered.
