The UNM men’s golf team moved from 25th place to 19th place in the second round of the NCAA West Regional at Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis, Ore.
The Lobos shot a team total of 299 to move into a tie for 19th place, improving by six shots from Thursday's first-round 305 for a two-day total of 604. They are tied with the University of California in the 27-team field heading into Saturday's final round. The top 10 finishers advance to the NCAA Championships later this month in Durham, N.C.
UNM is 12 shots behind 10th-place the University of South Carolina and Pepperdine University, which are at 592.
Individually , Scott Hailes shot an even-par 72 for a 2-over par score of 146. Joel Hendry leads UNM at 143 after shooting a 73. Following a 79 in the first round, Wil Collins came back to shoot 73 and is at 8-over par 152.
