Editor,
Just because everybody in the media world is jumping off the cliff like lemmings to join the digital world doesn’t mean the Daily Lobo has to as well.
Clearly, this is an economic decision, and I wish the editorial staff of the Daily Lobo had the huevos to simply come out and say it: Printing on paper with ink costs a hell of a lot of money.
On the other hand, because just about everybody and their dog is going digital, the printed word has an impact like never before. But thanks to your recent decision to take a “web-first approach,” the UNM news will be lost in a quagmire of zeros and ones.
I, for one, will dearly miss the publication of your daily newspaper. Yes, there are “rigors” involved in putting out a quality, daily product, but for God’s sake, if you’re a certified dyed-in-the-wool wordsmith, what else are you Daily Lobo employees going to do with your lives? Trust me: Rigor is not a dirty word.
Fun-fun-fun? Is that the future of serious journalism? Is that what us loyal readers of the Daily Lobo are aching for when we lovingly pull your outstanding newsprint journal out of those metal slots every morning?
I don’t think so.
Sincerely,
Chuck Reuben
Daily Lobo reader
