Tax cuts allow wealthy to provide jobs for the poor

Editor,

Enrique Montoya’s Feb. 22 letter about the widening gap between the rich and poor show how indoctrinated we have become to see our country in only two different classes: One which unfairly has become rich and the other whose back the rich stepped on to get there.

I do agree that the middle class should get a tax break, but why just stop with that particular group? We have a budget surplus right now that will not last if we demand half of every millionaire’s income.

Where do you think the capital for creating new jobs comes from? It does not come from the government, which does not create a single dollar but will rush in to spend the dollars of those who have created it.

If we do as Montoya suggests, we would be setting ourselves up for a great fall in which the fear he mentions becomes a reality. The “ultra-rich” have enough money to sustain themselves during periods when they are forced out of opportunities to make money. It is the middle and lower classes that will suffer the job and income losses when we make it unprofitable for the rich to employ them.

I would also suggest you make a call to Congress, but not in favor of Montoya’s “eat-the-rich” taxes to punish those who succeed. I would encourage that call to ask for your own money back, which our government has taken before we even had an opportunity to say no.
