On the heals of a controversial 16-14 season, UNM head basketball coach Fran Fraschilla announced his resignation Sunday, saying it would be better for University and him to go their separate ways.
Athletics Director Rudy Davalos said he met with Fraschilla Saturday night to discuss the future of the program, adding that the two agreed it would be difficult to stem negative public opinion associated with Fraschilla that had marred the program.
Fraschilla said he did not what he planned to do next, short of spending more time with his family. Davalos said the search for the Lobos' next head coach would begin immediately but did not release names of any possible candidates.
After three years, Fraschilla leaves 55-41, which is third best for the first three years of any head coach.
