Bike sale garners funds for UNM Police Dept.
The UNM Police Department bike auction raised more than $1,700 for the department Wednesday.
The auction, which ran from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Duck Pond, raised a total of $1,757.25. All of the nearly 50 bicycles were sold along with some stereo and speaker equipment that the police had in their impound.
The bike that fetched the highest price was a Gary Fisher mountain bike auctioned for $220. The cheapest bike, one that had no tires, was sold for $1.
The money raised by the auction will go toward the department's general budget.

Alleged battery at UNMH draws criminal complaint
UNM police responded to a battery complaint at the University Hospital office on Sept. 30.
After arriving, police met with the victim, who told them a man became verbally abusive with her and then grabbed her hand and refused to let go.
The man was a patient in the office.
The report states he left before police arrived.
According to the police report, there were two witnesses to the altercation who provided police with statements.
The report also indicates charges in the case are forthcoming, and a criminal complaint is pending.
Former Sonic employee barred from SUB area
A manager of the Sonic restaurant in the SUB called campus police Saturday after a former employee became loud and hostile.
The police report states the former employee returned to the restaurant to pick up his last paycheck. The manager told police that while he was there, he began swearing at the manager and then left the area.
The manager called campus police, but there was no physical contact between the former employee, the manager or other employees, the report states.
The manager requested the former employee no longer be allowed near the Sonic in the SUB.
Professor's car keyed in reserved parking space
A professor in the College of Education reported to campus police that on Oct. 1, he noticed his vehicle had been keyed.
The professor said he parked his vehicle at about 12:50 p.m., and when he returned about two hours later, he noticed two scratches on the side.
The vehicle was parked in the professor's reserved space, but the report doesn't specify the campus lot.
Police have no suspects in the case.
Transient strikes nurse in head with telephone
A transient allegedly assaulted a UNM nurse who was working in the University Hospital emergency room Saturday morning. The police report states a campus police officer standing in the emergency room witnessed the woman, described as an intoxicated transient, strike the nurse in the head with a telephone. The nurse told police he did not wish to press charges.
Burglar caught in parking structure; arrested
University Hospital security guards detained an Albuquerque man Oct. 2 on suspicion that he was trying to burglarize vehicles in the hospital parking structure.
When campus police arrived, they ran a background check on Peter Brasher and discovered he had an outstanding warrant.
Police arrested Brasher and booked him into the Metropolitan Detention Center.
