UNM Parking Police

Dear Editor,

I would like to bring up a flaw with our parking regulations. Why is it that we are required to supply the make, model, color, and licence plate of our vehicles to the parking department in order to get a parking permit, and they only use that information to bill us when we are in violation of a rule? Twice this semester I have forgotten to put my permit for the Zia Lot out on my dash board, and both times I have been charged the $15 dollar fine. In this era of technology, why can the parking enforment officers use the information that I have provided them to check that I did indeed perchase a valid parking permit. For the $66 that it cost, I believe that the parking department should be a bit more reasonable to people like me who may be a bit ditsy and once in a while forget to put out the little piece of plastic. If they can find me to charge me the $15 and put holds on my school acounts...they should be able to scroll down on their computer screens to see that I am in fact allowed to park where I did.
