Editor,
After a day filled with strenuous and stressful classes at UNM, a trip to the SUB for a quick bite to eat and a few minutes to chat with friends is a time to get away.
The issue I am about to address has really bothered me and my peers for quite some time now. Our favorite place to grab a sandwich is definitely Market Place. Although the sandwiches are excellent, the customer service is the opposite. Rude comments and gestures are made every day by certain workers to their loyal customers at Market Place, as well as the Pizza Hut located in the SUB.
As customers, being treated in a rude manner can really ruin your time to get away. For example, one day a classmate and I had been standing in the line at Market Place for about 25 minutes. We were the last two individuals in line, for that matter. As we approached the counter, one of the employees said she could get us on the other end. We made our way around the corner, she took our order, and I simply requested that my croissant be toasted. She snapped back and said she was not toasting on that side and that she was not a miracle worker. Taking into consideration that we were the last two people in line and that we were not aware that it took a miracle to place a simple piece of bread in a toaster, we simply got a rude reaction and purchased our untoasted sandwiches.
All employees at the SUB should take pride in their work, which should definitely include genuine customer service and following the example of the kind smiles and warm greetings of individuals at Higher Grounds.
I would like to leave a piece of advice and a few words of wisdom for employees of the SUB: Take a moment to place yourself in the shoes of a UNM student. Life is stressful as a college student. Help us ease our load a little with some simple kindness.

A nice smile or even a quick, kind "hello" can really brighten the day of a UNM student.
