The Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice is beating the odds by keeping its doors open, a volunteer for the center said.
"One of the things with the center is that it is a miracle that it keeps going," Frances Daniels-Thompson said. "Most organizations get grants from the government or major donors, and we just don't have that."
The center is asking people to make donations for its annual yard sale, said Daniels-Thompson, who helped organize the event.
"Reduce, reuse, recycle," said Daniels-Thompson. "We would like our members and members of the public to clean out their garages and bring it down to the center."

The yard sale is at 202 Harvard Drive S.E. from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The proceeds will go toward the center's programs, including concerts and awareness meetings, Daniels-Thompson said.
She said anything not sold or picked up would be donated to Goodwill.
"It's a whole thing for the community to get rid of stuff and also for people to come and pick up stuff," Daniels-Thompson said. "This is our fundraiser of the year."
Members of the community make the yard sale possible, said Cecilia Chavez, one of the center's managers.
"People have donated stuff," she said. "They bring these weird things to make space for the stuff they will buy on Saturday."
