Sophomore

Sociology and music

Daily Lobo: What do you want to do when you graduate?

Clayton Rabourn: I plan to go to graduate school.

DL: What do you want to do in graduate school?

CR: I want to eventually teach sociology.

DL: Do you have any sociology professors you look up to?

CR: I really like Dr. (Andrew) Schrank. He teaches my global issues class, 221.

DL: Why are you interested in sociology?

CR: I really liked sociology 101 with Ryan Goodman. I just found it really interesting.

DL: I see you like playing the guitar.

CR: Yeah. I plan on getting my bachelor's in music as well. It adds some motivation.

DL: How long have you been playing the guitar?

CR: I have been playing the guitar for about four or five years. I think I always wanted to play the guitar since I was a little kid. It was kind of an ambition I have always had.

DL: Are there any musicians that inspired you?

CR: I was always a big fan of the Allman Brothers Band. I am still. I have been for a really long time. They are one of my favorite bands.

DL: Did you start here at UNM?

CR: I did.

DL: Do you like it?

CR: I do for the most part. I find the access to the things you need sometimes difficult to find.

DL: Like what?

CR: Just access to the financial aid department, and then their information can be questionable at times. I always get told one thing, but then it's another. I am offered less money, or it's not available for the things it was at one point. I find that frustrating.

DL: Does that affect your education?

CR: Well, it's always workable. Not always ideal, but workable.

DL: Was UNM your first choice?

CR: Yeah. I guess because a lot of my family went to UNM. Like my mom, my cousin, my dad, my uncle all went to UNM. It's kind of always been like a family thing.
