19-year-old driver arrested for drunk driving in car registered to Locksley

Lobo recruit Joshua Butts was arrested Saturday for aggravated DWI in a car registered to head football coach Mike Locksley.

According to the police report the vehicle was registered to Michael and Kia Anika Locksley with the license plate reading, 34UNM02.

Butts was also charged with a minor in possession of alcohol, reckless driving and driving without a license.

Three other individuals, Brian Salazar, Desiree Cordova and Ashley Wellito, all under the age of 21, were all intoxicated in the car. Wellito was also charged with being hostile towards officers.

Salazar and Cordova received misdemeanor citations and released at the scene.

According to the police report, Butts was pulled over after speeding and nearly hitting a pedestrian in front of University Stadium.

After being pulled over, Butts failed a field sobriety test and blew a 0.16 blood alcohol level.

The vehicle, a 2002 Ford SUV, was towed from the scene.

According to the report, Butts told officers that he was on a recruiting trip from Chicago, but later changed his story and said he was a redshirt freshman driving fast so he could get to the game.

Elizabeth Cleary contributed to this report.

Editor’s Note: At the time of publishing, the police report stated Salazar and Cordova were arrested, when, in fact they were not. The Lobo has since corrected the story.
