Suspicious man had warrant out, police say
On November 25, UNMPD officers were dispatched to the Anderson School of Management upon a report of a suspicious-looking man loitering in the building. According to the caller, the man had been loitering in and around the building off and on for about a week. Though the man identified himself by another name, a responding officer recognized the man who, after a National Crime Information Center database verification check, was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant without incident or injury, according to the report.
Student reports car was abused overnight
On November 26, UNMPD dispatched an officer to R Lot, south of Redondo Village. A student said that he had parked his vehicle in the lot at around 9:30 the previous evening, and when he returned to his car at 10:30 that morning, the door lock was no longer functional. According to the report, it appeared that entry was never gained into the vehicle, but the key hole had been damaged.
There were no witnesses and the case is considered closed pending further leads, according to the report.
Police: Man made off with backpack, jewelry
On November 27, a UNMPD officer met with a man at UNMH who had gone into the hospital for medical services the previous day.
According to the report, the victim was approached by a man who signed in as the victim’s guest when the two became acquainted.
Later, the man reportedly asked if he could help the victim out by holding the victim’s backpack, which the victim handed over. The man then said he needed to go and use the hospital telephone in the lobby, according to the report. The man never returned with the victim’s backpack, which contained “jewelry of unknown quality” including silver chains, pendants, a gold-colored cross and two prescriptions from UNMH, according to the report.
Police were able to obtain the man’s full name and date of birth from the UNMH sign-in sheet, and matched it to a profile in the National Crime Information Center database. The value of the stolen backpack and items, minus the jewelry, is about $100, while the value of the jewelry is unknown, the report states.
Report: Employee struck by patient
On November 29, UNMPD responded to a reported battery at the UNMH Mental Health Hospital. According to the report, a UNMH employee attempted to intervene in a physical conflict between two patients when one of the patients raised his elbow and struck the employee on her head. The employee stated she did not require medical attention, though she felt pain across her forehead and down her neck at the time of the report, and stated that the suspect who struck her had never been aggressive toward staff before.

The suspect was “medicated and not capable of writing out a statement,” according to the report. No further action was taken at the time.
Graffiti art discovered on various buildings
On December 1, a UNMPD officer on patrol located several instances of graffiti throughout the UNM main campus on Ortega Hall, Mitchell Hall, Manzanita Hall and the College of Education classrooms building. The instances of graffiti were done in dark blue/black paint and/or ink, and included both pictures of cartoonish animal characters and written messages, one of which said “Love is the way,” according to the report.
The officer took 38 pictures and tagged the camera’s memory card into evidence. According to the report, the case is considered closed pending further leads.
