A member of the New Mexico State Forestry Division monitors smoldering brush after an afternoon bosque fire burned about three and a half acres of bosque and a small bit of private land in the South Valley directly south of Rio Bravo. Heath Weekooty, incident commander at the Bureau of Indian Affairs and captain of the Southern Pueblos Agency, said the fire started when a mattress ignited due to an unextinguished warming fire in a transient camp Monday at around 2 p.m.
