No matter what firefighter José Sedillo is doing at the time, if an emergency call comes in, Sedillo has to sprint to the fire engine and pile into the truck with his coworkers. “The most calls we get are about people having drug or alcohol problems. The least calls are about fire,” Sedillo says. “People call us when they see some people lying on the ground. It is our job to go and rescue them.” Sedillo has been a firefighter for five years and worked two and a half years at Station 3. He works a 48-hour shift at the station once a week. When he’s not there, he manages his small electronic business, but he enjoys the rigors attached to being a firefighter. “When I was young, I always wanted to be a firefighter,” Sedillo says. “And my kids love my job.”
