In the first two parts of this UNM transportation series, I discussed how UNM Parking and Transportation Services needs to step up to reduce our carbon footprint and how managing your transportation options begin with deciding where to live.

Nowadays the newspapers read like People magazine.

So when you’re trying to quit smoking, there are some general guidelines that you must follow if you stand a chance at actually quitting.
Being in the process myself, I have decided to offer the little guidance I can:
First, stop smoking.

Dear Dr. Peg,
I have a friend who is doing the HCG diet with the drops, not injections, and wanted to know if you know about it and what you thought of it. From what I found out, they do it for 30-40 days and have a lot of restrictions and things they have to do and are on a 500-calorie diet. I was concerned that it might not be healthy or safe.

President Schmidly has said that Athletics is the University’s front porch, and I’d like to say that I think we need to remodel the porch.
It’s not a matter of whether the team is winning. Remodeling the porch isn’t about capital improvements or athletic endowments. This remodeling goes to the heart of things. It’s about rethinking the University and how it relates to the community it serves and belongs to.

In the first part of this series on UNM transportation, I discussed how UNM Parking and Transportation Services needs to step up to reduce the carbon footprint created by UNM’s transportation system – especially from single-occupancy vehicles (SOVs).
One of the best ways to reduce that carbon footprint is for people to rethink where they live.
I know this is outside today’s paradigm, but managing your travel options makes sense in a world of human-created climate instability and decreasing natural resources. Where you decide to live is the first step in managing those travel options.

On July 31, head football coach Mike Locksley approached Daily Lobo sports editor Ryan Tomari at Uptown Sports Bar. Locksley disagreed with the stance Tomari took in a column where he said the UNM football program was in “shambles.”

Every college student is busy with school, work and life.

There are a lot of things about school that interfere with my doing-nothing-of-importance time. I like to read a lot of books —
mostly about things that have a little to do with my studies, or just things I want to learn about. Last year I read three books on electronics so I could build a light out of a potato. I recently donated those books and bought a nice lamp for my desk. Potatoes are better to eat anyway. Last Christmas, I learned how to crochet from a book and my family got scarves — not for Christmas, but they still really liked them.
I also like to ride my bike, spend time

Undergrads, the Associated Students of the University of New Mexico (ASUNM) is your student government. You may be unaware of what ASUNM does and how it affects change in your lives. Each student contributes $20 to ASUNM. With that money, ASUNM operates student service agencies and provides funding for student organizations and programs. As an example, your fees helped fund a portion of the Welcome Back Days activities. If you have ever enjoyed the noontime concerts outside the SUB, attended Red Rally or Spring Storm, those are all provided by your student fees.

I am excited for fall TV, which probably means I actively hate books, so much so that during commercial breaks, I run out of the room to burn down libraries.

In the everyday life of a college student, it’s easy to get caught up in seemingly endless papers, tests and tailgates. Sometimes it doesn’t leave much time for deciding what really matters to you as a person. What do you love? What gives you a sense of accomplishment? What makes your life worth living?

Dear Dr Peg,
What is the fastest way to get rid of a cold sore when it is already on your lip? Please help. My social life is suffering and my boyfriend threatened to cheat.

If you have taken a walk down Central Avenue in the neighborhood of Buffalo Exchange or the tiny police sub station or Taco Bell, you may have wandered by a giant marquee that says “Mars Hill.” You may have wondered what in God’s name is going on in there. Well, it turns out, everything that goes on in there is in God’s name.

The UNM salary book is only available in Zimmerman Library for two hours. The book is about two inches thick and lists each UNM employee in alphabetical order. No electronic copy of the book exists, so students, staff, faculty and community members interested in learning how tax dollars are being spent must sign up in Zimmerman and make sure to return the document in two hours.
