We may not have gotten the day off from school on Presidents’ Day, but the Daily Lobo wanted to take a moment and reflect on the central tenet on which this country was founded – freedom. We compiled a bunch of freebies from which you can choose freely. Freedom for everybody, no matter your political affiliation. George Washington would have been proud.

Editor’s Note: Valentine’s Day approaches with an overcrowding of chocolate, red paper hearts and roses, and it’s hard to avoid the clichés. But if you want to stand out from the crowd and make a lasting impression on your date, the Daily Lobo has come up with some alternative date ideas. Of course these ideas won’t be so fresh once the entire campus reads them, so hurry up and get on it.

A man in a black unitard tumbles 20 feet from the ceiling in a flurry of red fabric, the silk catching him around the waist just a few feet above the floor. The performers behind him burst out laughing, interrupting the last notes of guitar music as he untangles himself.

Editor’s Note: Freedom is a rare commodity in the life of a student, with a constant stream of reading, tests and labs. While the Daily Lobo can’t relieve that pain, we can give you some free events to consciously choose between. This is probably as much freedom as you’ll get during the next few months, so get on it.

Wide-eyed children gasp as they learn someone probably poured battery acid down Kale’s back, the pit bull that is now licking their hands and nibbling at bits of string cheese. It could have been acid, but it also could have been gasoline that was then set on fire.

Dogs seem like the cutest things on the planet until they reveal their true nature after adoption. Some can be little terrors who seem to purposefully make your life as difficult as possible. The Daily Lobo is here to help you rein in your dog with some tips from Animal Humane New Mexico.

A pool of yellow light shines on a group of women huddled in the corner of the outdoor basketball court. Their raw fingers plaster duct tape onto mangled roller skates and elbow pads. It’s an evening cold enough to see breath, as the women tie up the last frayed laces on their skates.

A white-haired woman sits on the bus surrounded by plastic grocery bags as the robotic female voice says, “Stop requested.” Her arm in a splint, she realizes her cigarette is still lit from outside and presses the charred, glowing end onto her outstretched tongue in order to put it out. Who knows why she opted for this method, but for Albuquerque bus drivers, scenes like these are just part of the everyday grind.
