Today the Board of Regents will finalize next year’s budget, which includes a 7.9 percent increase in tuition and fees.
The meeting starts at 9 a.m. and runs until 11:30 a.m. in SUB Ballroom C. The regents formulated the amount of tuition and fee increase at their annual Budget Summit on April 2, and then based the rest of the budget around it, said Susan McKinsey, UNM spokeswoman. McKinsey said that any changes to the increases in student fees and tuition would be difficult this late in the process, but not impossible.

Discolored water prompted the UNM Physical Plant Department to shut off UNM’s well-water source Tuesday and use city water instead.
The University issued an emergency notification text message about the problem at 10:43 a.m. and sent an e-mail at 10:44 a.m. The notification warned against “drinking or using any tap water on campus until further notice by request of Physical Plant Department.”

GPSA presidential candidate Martin Gutierrez ignored the GPSA council’s recommendation to disclose all of his campaign funding and expenses by Monday at 5 p.m.
On Sunday evening, Gutierrez said GPSA should be focusing on issues that matter to students, such as tuition — not where campaign funds are coming from or how much he is spending.

The GPSA Council Chair was elected on Saturday, but some council representatives called the results into question only an hour later.
Graduate student Megan McRobert got 12 votes and current GPSA Council Chair Danny Hernandez received nine.
“I’m excited to have been elected,” McRobert said. “A number of people noted with surprise how many people were in the room, and I think that speaks to the GPSA’s increase in visibility and that people really care about what goes on here.”

The Graduate and Professional Student Association delayed the decision to fund the Daily Lobo for a second time.
Erin Phillips, GPSA Theatre and Dance representative, proposed to give $15,803.25 to the student newspaper during GPSA’s meeting on Saturday. This amount is equivalent to $2.85 from each of the 5,545 graduate students.
