Guitarist's strumming spins cosmic soundtrack

“The reason I write music is because I want people to start falling in love again,” said Cliff Campbell, a local guitar teacher and performer. Campbell’s new DVD, “Helio Raie,” takes viewers on a supernatural and kaleidoscopic journey that features the acoustic and electric forms of Campbell’s music.

Studio's salsa fires up Albuquerque

Spicing up your Saturday night could be as easy as adding a little salsa — but not the kind you put on chips. This weekend you can move your hips to Latin music at a salsa dance class at Salsa-Baby.com, aka Salsa Baby dance studios, on 3901 Central Ave.

Downtown gallery rolls out motorcycle prints

Motorcycle madness is roaring down the halls of Chroma Studios. The Downtown art center, which opened in May, will exhibit contemporary motorcycle prints until Saturday in a show called “Keeping it Shiny Side Up.” Jacqui Lewnes, a printmaker featured in the show, said she has always loved motorcycles. “I love riding, especially through open mountains,” Lewnes said.

Cosmo Tapas brings the sabor to ABQ

Tapas are rare in New Mexico, so if you’ve never tried them now is the perfect time to head to the newly opened Cosmo Tapas on Central Avenue. Good tapas always present a dilemma for me, because if they are good, I’ll probably want more than a tapas-sized portion, and that was exactly the case at Cosmo. The food fits right in with the atmosphere, with mood lighting and live music in the lounge every weekend.

You don't have to be afraid to talk about "doing it" at Self Serve. The sexuality resource center on Central Avenue offers help to people who want to improve their sex lives. The shop is focused on providing information about how to have better and safer sex, said co-owner Matie Fricker.

Film-fest entrants' fate in the hands of Wild Bill

Wild Bill is calling for short films to headline his first-ever film fest at The Box Performance Space this Saturday. The festival is the brainchild of Chris Walsh and Matt Garcia of Amigo Productions, a local film company. Central to the event is audience participation, in that the attendees decide which films to watch and which to skip.

A smokin' good time at the Blazed and Confused tour

Some people say going to a hip-hop show is like going to church. The "Doggfather" of hip-hop came to Albuquerque's Journal Pavilion last Tuesday with a sermon that fell on more than 1,000 hungry ears. Snoop Dogg got people on their feet, singing along, and he even sang a Tupac Shakur song as a tribute to the deceased rapper.
