Sophomore center Chad Bell announced Monday that he has decided to leave the UNM men’s basketball team. In a press conference Monday, with head coach Ritchie McKay by his side, Bell stated that his reasons for leaving were to find a bigger role in a different program and a desire to be closer to his Southern Californian home.
UNMPD detectives are investigating an allegation of a criminal sexual penetration that occurred at a fraternity house late last month — the third sexual assault of its kind reported to campus police this academic year. “That (case) is still under active investigation,” said UNM Police Department Lt.

UNMPD Graduate student on bike struck by instructor's car A UNM graduate student was taken to University Hospital after she was struck by a car and knocked off her bike near campus. The accident occurred Feb. 27 at the intersection of Vassar Drive and Marble Avenue north of the Health Sciences Center.
UNM police are looking into nine separate instances of graffiti vandalism at campus buildings -- all expressing anti-war themes and occurring only hours after the first attacks on Iraq. The anti-war messages, including "War is murder;" "Bush is a terrorist;" and "No war," were spray painted onto the walls of the Navy and Air Force ROTC buildings, the north wall of the Fine Arts Building and along the south wall of the city reservoir on South Redondo Drive sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
Firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from the water pump station on Redondo Drive near Yale Boulevard at about 5 p.m. Sunday. As smoke poured from the building's windows, three city fire trucks and a unit from the Albuquerque Hazardous Materials Response Team arrived on the scene.

The University's Board of Regents announced Friday a list of five candidates that the 18th president of UNM will be chosen from by the end of the semester. The sophomore point guard, who more often than not leads in intangible statistics like diving for loose balls, scored 11 first half points en route to a 34-22 first period lead.
The Frontier Restaurant has been named Restaurant Neighbor of the Year by the New Mexico Restaurant Association. The award was recently presented to Larry and Dorothy Rainosek, the owners of both the Frontier and Golden Pride BBQ Chicken and Ribs Restaurants in Albuquerque, at the annual Hospitality Industry Awards.

The Tuesday night panel discussion at the University's School of Law included a presentation to establish the history behind the conflict, two speakers passionately arguing for each nation and a moderator who said that despite a heated argument, he thought panelists eventually achieved a better understanding for each other and for the issues addressed.

Staff Report Two UNM fraternity presidents have reportedly reconciled the differences that existed between the groups after a March 1 incident that left the property of one house littered with beer cans and broken glass. Campus police were called to the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house twice after receiving phone calls regarding loud music and beer bottles being thrown in the direction of the Phi Gamma Delta house.
