Football: Davie appoints Eggen to head defensive line

New Mexico has announced the signing of Stan Eggen as the newest member of Bob Davie’s football coaching staff.

The day after Davie received a contract extension through the 2021 season, the head coach appointed Eggen as the defensive line coach.

Eggen brings his veteran defensive mind to UNM having coached on that side of the ball since 1979, when he started as a defensive backs coach for North Dakota.

Along with Eggen’s extensive tenure as a defensive coach, Eggen has worked with several top-tiered players in the NFL including Von Miller (Denver), Michael Bennett (Seattle), Red Bryant (Seattle), IK Enemkpali (Buffalo) and Justin Ellis (Oakland).

Eggen’s most recent stint was as a defensive line coach for Iowa State for the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Two players from the Cyclones picked up accolades on his line as Demond Tucker picked up the Big XII Defensive Newcomer of the Year (6 sacks, 13.5 TFLs) and Dale Pierson was named to the second team All-Big XXII (8.5 sacks, 12.5 TFLs).

The Minnesota native graduated from Moorhead State with a B.S. in education where he played from 1972-1976. Eggen would later pick up his master’s in education in 1981 from North Dakota.
