Letter: Replace the Dogwood trees on campus with something nicer smelling

Editor,

If you have walked north out of Zimmerman library you have probably noticed a distinct smell in the air. That smell comes from the Dogwood trees, which are the white trees that are along the sides of the walkway exiting the library. Along with the smell, you can hear the comments about how the trees themselves smell rather funky from those who have passed them.

These trees are a distraction on campus. Perhaps we should find a better place for them. One solution that I would suggest would be to transplant them to several UNM alumni’s houses in exchange for a new tree being planted. It would allow those who wished to donate and contribute to UNM a chance to bring a piece of the campus home to themselves. It will also allow the campus itself to have a new set of fresh trees present.

Different trees on the walkway can give a new peace of mind to those that use the walkway going to the library. As a student, any chance to be able to stop and smell something pleasant during stressful times really makes a difference.

Sincerely,

Robert Parra, Student
