I agree that “illegal immigration” should not be rewarded, and those people need to take the path to legal citizenship. There in-lies the problem. The process of becoming a citizen in this country is so convaluted and expensive, that the “tired, poor, and sick” our country is supposed to accept cannot afford the process, so what happens they pay a Coyote to bring them accross illegally, or get into drug trafficing as a way to pay for their families to come over legally. There is no doubt that we need immigration reform, but the rhetoric put forth by Richard Berry and other conservatives, is filled with fear and hate toward immigrants, they don’t want ilegals in the country, but are unwilling to change the way we process them. there is a reason people would rather risk there lives to make the trek across the border to better their lives, it’s because its Damn near impossible for them get here legally! And a comment to “The Ghost” think about how your Jewish ancestors got to this country, and ask yourself are you so different from the people trying to come to the land of opportunity now?

If Berry does but one thing in the next fours years may it be the removal of Albuquerque’s sanctuary city status.

Black on Black violence is the norm as we just seen in Chicago were a young Black man beat a Black teen to the ground with a pole and other Black teens stomped that kid to death. When have you seen white people behave like this in America?

People do come to Albuquerque because they cannot get the quality of care in their own country that we taxpayers provide for free. What would they be doing to earn fewer yen, pesos or rubles if not making gods for America?

Way to throw out the race card. Anytime someone brings up legitimate issues dealing with illegal immigration, someone has to bring up the issue of race to discredit or label that person – especially if they are Anglo. We have serious issues facing this great country many of which are linked to our lack of enforcing illegal immigration laws.

One person wrote that our immigration laws are a mess. This is true. I am only a second generation American. My grandparents came here prior to WWI to make a better life for themselves and their children. My grandfathers, father, aunts and uncles and many cousins worked in the steel mills of Gary, IN. People of foreign birth had a hard time when they first came to this country because of their poor English and other issues. I can tell stories that were told to me about this intolerance. It happened in Detroit in the auto industry also. We seem to forget that most people from south of our border came here to work for low wages and do farm labor that most Americans would not do. They also have come to make a better life for themselves and their children. Most are not criminals. There are good people and bad people in every group. Breaking up families because parents are undocumented is poor policy and needs to change. Let’s hope that Mr. Berry’s remarks were just political rhetoric used to win an election by counting on some folks fears. Supposedly, his wife is of Latino or Hispanic heritage. The gods save us all!!

I have no pity on those who come here illegally. I came here the right way, through the proper channels, and I am a proud citizen. If you break the immigration laws, you pay the price. Don’t cry and blame the government, because people who come here know they are coming illegally. The government is not separating families, those who come here illegally do.
