UNM student Garrett Elders was found dead in Sigma Chi Fraternity House late Tuesday evening. According to the police report, a fraternity member told police that Elders had “killed himself.” MAR 29

(un)Occupy Albuquerque members attempted to reoccupy UNM’s Yale Park today, but about a dozen UNM police officers forced the group move to the sidewalk of Central Avenue. FEB 27
(un)Occupy students attacked during protest
A group of UNM students, many of whom are members of (un)Occupy Albuquerque were physically assaulted after they protested during a lecture Thursday night. The group “mic checked” Nonie Darwish, author, human rights activist and daughter of Egyptian Army Leader Lieutenant General Mustafa Hafez while she was speaking on Israel’s involvement in the Arab Spring Movement. Staff member dies at UNM
UNM Accountant Clifford Roudabush died on campus Monday after suffering an apparent heart attack. Roudabush has worked for the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department since 1997. FEB 22
Wolfgang Scott-Cohen has died
According to his Facebook, Wolfgang Scott-Cohen has died. His family has stated they do not wish to be contacted at this time. FEB 22
APD: drunk driver hit student
UNM student Wolfgang Scott-Cohen was struck while riding his scooter by a drunk driver in a pickup truck in the UNM area Friday afternoon. FEB 13

Albuquerque police arrested UNM football player Ryan Trujillo on Friday after he pepper-sprayed his girlfriend, police reports said. JAN 23
Albuquerque chapter of NAACP: UNM is biased against African Americans
The Albuquerque chapter of the NAACP filed a complaint with the Justice Department and the Department of Education claiming UNM is biased against African-Americans. The New York Times reported Tuesday the Title IV says University and UNMH administrators created a racially hostile environment for black faculty, staff and students. The complaint says African-Americans have been excluded from upper administration positions, African-American women have no authority within UNM and that African-American faculty face salary disparities. Protest nearly reaches 3 weeks
The Occupy Albuquerque movement officially changed its name to (Un)occupy Albuquerque after a vote at its general assembly meeting Sunday. Protester Clint Cosper said the change addressed concerns some protesters raised about the negative connotations of the word ‘occupy.’ “Some feel ‘occupy’ has a charged connotation,” he said. OCT 17

Defensive coordinator George Barlow to coach for interim
Mike Locksley is no longer head coach of the Lobo football team.
Paul Krebs announced Sunday that Locksley has been relieved of his duties and that defensive coordinator George Barlow will take over as interim coach for the rest of the year.

Abdallah didn’t intend to save
A Sept. 4 Albuquerque Journal article entitled Interim Provost Chaouki Abdallah’s efforts to reorganize the Provost’s Office a “cost saving plan” that had “backfired,” but Abdallah said his plans have worked as he expected. Abdallah sent out a University-wide e-mail Wednesday in hopes of telling his side of the story. SEP 8
