Gallup students fed up with financial aid

Editor,

I attend the UNM Gallup Branch and I would really like to know why they can not get it together.

Every summer there is a problem with the financial aid department. They put off processing student loans and other things until the last minute, causing some students to have to wait until almost the end of the semester or later to get their checks.

Now they are doing this during the fall semester. A lot of students found out their paperwork has not even been processed yet and they have to wait until financial aid feels like doing it.

Then there is the matter of classes being canceled with no notification to the students who registered for them! Just because we are students does not mean we do not deserve respect.

And as for student loans, it is the students who have to pay them back, so why are they giving us such a hard time? The people in financial aid act as if they are the ones who have to pay the loans back, they give us a bad attitude at the Gallup Branch whenever we try to find out what is going on.

And if you are missing some paperwork, or it gets “lost,” which happens a lot, then they do not even let you know until after school has started! A lot of students are getting fed up with this branch campus and reporting all this to the dean and the provost has done no good.

No action is ever taken.
