Editor,
The other night, I ran into a young lady who studies athletic training at UNM in Johnson Center, where both of us were riding the exercise bikes. She told me she does not even read the Daily Lobo much anymore because she feels that the editorial page has become one series of attacks and snide remarks, with very little positive feedback or praise for anything.
So, I have decided to write this letter as a sort of appreciation for her, given that she works in athletic training, is responsible for two athletic teams, plus her classes and studying that she does outside of class. She told me that she hardly has any time for a life now, but that the stress and hard work will pay off.
I want to write to praise her as a person because she does the work few people would want, and assumes responsibilities that often fall beyond her normal domain of responsibility.
This letter is a token of appreciation for one Sabra Papich, who feels exasperated by what she perceives as constant negativity and backbiting in the letters of the Lobo. And she has a point. I read two letters today blasting Michael Carrasco, but they were rather snide, and they came off as short, sardonic jabs rather than pointing out the merits of their own theses.
So, I just want to write a letter expressing a more positive, upbeat note for a person who works hard in school, works hard for her teams and toward her goals and will go far in life. She will be a great career person, as well as a great wife and mother to somebody someday.
