Less than 150 seats remain for the award-winning musical comedy "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown". The musical was first directed by Joe Harding, from New Mexico Highlands University, and was performed in New York, but it's the revised edition - winner of two Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical for the 1998-99 Broadway season - that is now showing at the Adobe Theater in Albuquerque.
Present are all the memorable characters of the "Peanuts" gang by Charles M. Schulz who come to life before your eyes. The main characters of the show are Charlie Brown's sister Sally, played by Claire Syroid, Amelia Cavallo as "Queen" Lucy, Steven Johnston as Linus, Raja Burrows as the Beethoven-loving Schroeder, Johnny Quintana as Charlie Brown and, of course, Snoopy, played by Jonathan Dunski.
This cast provides audiences with non-stop entertainment and music. The play contains all of our requisite childhood memories of the cartoon, such as Snoopy battling with the Red Baron in his World War I bi-plane, Charlie Brown's disappointment in love and difficulties in school, Lucy becoming Queen and much more. The musical is never dull, and the characters retain the same original charm of Schulz's comic.
Director Bob Meadows says the musical is for all ages to enjoy and that with the talent of the actors they will love it even more.
"I think (people) will have a good time. It's definitely worth the money," Meadows said. "Everybody that has seen it seems to like it. It's entertaining; everybody knows the characters."
This is a production that the whole family can enjoy. The music is spectacular and inspires nostalgic thoughts of childhood. The songs are well known and catchy, and their optimistic and lighthearted melodies will have audiences cheering. The play runs through April 7 at the Adobe Theater, 9813 Fourth St. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $10 for seniors and students. For reservations, call 898-9222.
