Gonzales runs out of gas at USA track meet

Staff Report

Track and Field

UNM long distance runner Matt Gonzales ran to an 11th place finish in the 10K at the USA Track and Field Championships in Stanford, Calif., last weekend.

The junior All-American ran his slowest race of the year. He said that the short time between NCAA Championships and USA Nationals contributed to his slower time.

His time of 24 minutes, 48.21 seconds was more than 20 seconds slower than his time at the NCAA's where he finished third.

Gonzales is waiting to hear from Pan-American Game officials on whether he will be invited to compete in this year's games.
