Golf team snags second at home

Staff Report

The UNM men's golf team finished second this weekend at the 50th annual William H. Tucker Invitational at the UNM Championship Golf Course. The University of Arizona won the tournament by two strokes over the Lobos.

UNM ended the tournament at 7-under par after an even-par round of 288 on Saturday.

Spencer Levin, the No. 2 amateur in the country, played three rounds under par, but it was not enough to top Ryan Moore of UNLV.

The two were at 10-under par with three holes to play, but Levin's costly mistakes on No. 16 left him with a bogey. Moore went on to birdie No. 18 to end the tournament at 11-under par, two shots ahead of Levin.

UNM had three other players in the top-20. Senior Miguel Griego tied for 11th, sophomore Charlie Beljan tied for 13th, and senior Jay Reynolds tied for 16th. Griego shot a final round of 1-under par on Saturday to end the tournament at even. Beljan's final round of even par left him at 1-over par for the tournament. Reynolds slipped a bit on the final day, shooting a round of 3-over par, but concluded the tournament at 2-over par.

The Lobos will hit the links again on Friday, Oct. 22 at the Nelson in Stanford, Calif.
