Moore tears ACL in bowl loss

DonTrell Moore's bad bowl luck continued in San Francisco this year during UNM's 34-19 loss to Navy.

On the Lobo's second drive of the Emerald Bowl, Moore suffered a torn ACL in his right knee and didn't return for the rest of the game.

"He will need surgery, but he hasn't decided to announce when yet," assistant director of media relations Alfredo Moreno said.

Moreno said Moore will miss all of spring practice but could be ready for fall practice.

While Moore was catching a pitch from quarterback Kole McKamey, Navy cornerback Vaughn Kelly upended the Lobos' star running back, causing his knee to bend awkwardly and Moore to drop the ball.

Moore was carried off the field by teammates Claude Terrell and Robert Turner.

Moore rushed for 1,082 yards in 10 games this season. This was the 3rd consecutive season that Moore rushed for more than 1,000 yards.

Coming into the game, Moore needed 125 yards to break UNM's record for rushing yards in a career. He was only able to gain 8 yards on 5 carries before he was injured.

Moore racked up just 22 yards on 25 carries in the two previous trips to the Las Vegas Bowl that capped the 2002 and 2003 seasons.
