Barras grabs 2 gold, 1 silver

Staff Report

Becca Barras brought home two gold medals and one silver from the Mountain West Conference swimming and diving championships last weekend.

UNM placed sixth at the event, with 387 points. The overall winner was University of Nevada-Las Vegas, with 701.5 points. The Runnin' Rebels took over first place from Brigham Young on the final day of competition.

Barras won her final gold on the last day after scoring 396.9 on the platform. Barras also won gold on Wednesday in the 1-meter dive, the third straight year she's won the event, and took silver in the 3-meter board. That second-place finish was only her second loss to an MWC opponent all year.

Junior Robyn Miller won several medals at the event. She won the bronze in the 800-yard freestyle relay - along with Kelsey Leckovic, Jenna Swerson and Andrea Zarins - bronze in the 500-yard freestyle individual, silver in the 400-yard individual medley and another silver in the 200-yard butterfly.

Miller set UNM records in all three individual events, breaking her own old marks in the final two.
