Becca Barras might have already reached the global stage, but UNM head diving coach Abel Sanchez said that's where Barras will begin to realize her full potential.
The former Lobo will compete at the World University Games in Izmir, Turkey, from Aug. 11 to Aug. 21.
Barras, a four-time All-Mountain West Conference selection as a member of the Lobo diving team, will be one of only two divers to represent Canada in the World University Games.
The World University Games are comprised of the top two divers from each of 170 countries who are enrolled at a university or have graduated from a university within one year of the games.
Barras was selected to the team because of her performance at the Summer Senior Championships that took place from June 2 to June 5. There she had to be one of the top two Canadians to place. She placed ninth overall and first among Canadians.
"I'm very excited," said Barras. "This is only my second international meet. It's going to be nice to compete and see where I stand."
Sanchez, who has been working with Barras the past couple years, said she will do well and surprise even herself.
