Golfers need swing of fate

The UNM men's golf team finished tied for sixth place at the PING NCAA Championship Preview on Tuesday.

The Lobos shot a 1-under-par 287 in the second round of the tournament in Bend, Ore., at the par-72, 7,671-yard Crosswater Golf Course.

UNM is now 7 over par, with the final round being played today.

The University of Georgia holds the overall team lead at 8 under par. The Bulldogs are the defending national champions.

UNM was led in the second round by senior Jay Choi, who shot a 3 under par. Choi is tied for 10th overall at 2 under par.

Sophomore Robb Bierbaum is at 1 over par and tied for 18th.

Junior Charlie Beljan, who carded a 1 under par on Monday, is tied for 20th at 2 over par overall.

Senior Mark Anderson is tied for 40th at 7 over par, while freshman Nick Geyer is tied for 57th at 9 over par.

Bulldog Brian Harman is the individual leader at 8 under par. He is followed by Pablo Martin of Oklahoma State and Webb Simpson of Wake Forest, who are both at 7 under par.
