Iva Gersic - There are a few UNM athletes ranking among the best in the nation, but one stands out like a student walking around campus wearing a New Mexico State Aggies jersey - only Gersic stands out in a good way.
Gersic gets better every season and shows no sign of becoming another women's tennis player who is stuck somewhere between being ranked in the top 100 and getting a new career.
She's achieved a .853 winning percentage as a Lobo, she was a Mountain West Conference co-Player of the Year and she was an all-MWC selection for singles and doubles.

And to top it off, she's also an academic all-MWC honoree.
During the Lobo Fall Invitational a few weeks ago, Gersic dominated her competition. She took first place in singles and captured the doubles title with her sidekick - and I don't mean T-Mobile, I mean Maja Kovacek.
Kovacek and Gersic teamed up last week to make it to the semifinals of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships as the No. 3-ranked duo in the country.
Hank Baskett - The best UNM football player this season isn't DonTrell Moore. It's Hank "Catches Anything That Moves" Baskett.
He is so fast, teams should call him the neck-breaker. One minute he's there, and the next, he's flying by and over a dizzied opponent to catch a ball.
During the game against Missouri, Baskett split two defenders and sprung into the air for an amazing catch. People all around Lobo nation were wiping their eyes like Squints from "The Sandlot" when his crush and local lifeguard Wendy walks down the street.
Baskett is earning national attention for his abilities on the football field. Receiving records are being passed along the way, as Baskett continues to play well. Mr. Hair Spray himself - ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. - has him ranked among the nation's top receivers. The NFL is taking notice, and it should.
