Editor,
Christina Conticelli is correct about UNM's parking problems in her letter in Monday's Daily Lobo. We all know it would take cars off campus if the use of motorcycles was encouraged. But what does parking services do? It charges us $49, at my last inquiry, to register to park a motorcycle on campus to avoid a ticket.
How much sense does it take to realize that the University should pay us to ride motorcycles and bicycles to campus and leave our cars and trucks at home? Parking services might want to do some of this, but the regents have made the department raise its own money to operate from more taxes on the students, staff and faculty.
Since it is not in the interest of parking services to solve the parking problem on campus, I hope someone at the regents level looks into this and other problems like those Conticelli identified, whereby we are punished for trying to help or just being forgetfully human.
