Phil Sitges' letter in last Friday's Daily Lobo compared the United States' efforts against terrorism to a bug zapper.
I applaud the comparison, but Sitges missed the point completely.
Yes, our efforts against terrorists in Iraq are exactly like a bug zapper - it's a proven fact that bug zappers draw more bugs to your house than would normally be there in the first place.
Alas, our occupation of Iraq is also drawing more terrorists to attack the West than ever before. The bug zapper analogy works - the bugs are coming to the bug zapper, only the bugs are terrorists and we are the zapper.
Considering that this is the thought path of a college alumnus, I'm frightened. If the educated people of our country are coming to these kinds of conclusions, I think we may be in for some serious trouble.
