Editor,
The World Affairs Delegation would like to sincerely thank Dong Chengru for his insights in his letter to the editor in Monday's Daily Lobo.
However, we would also like to insist that our views on China were not correctly portrayed in the article in last Wednesday's Daily Lobo, to which Chengru was responding.
As an organization, we chose the Beijing conference out of many possibilities in order to experience a culture that we are all enthusiastic about encountering first-hand.
While Wednesday's article implied that we are hesitant about our safety in China, this is in reality an unfortunate miscommunication.
As a group of young adults, we are naturally nervous to travel alone to a country that is more than 5,000 miles away. But this trepidation comes not from the fact that our destination is China - we simply acknowledge the fact that such an ambitious trip carries with it responsibilities and risks that can certainly be daunting.

We are grateful to learn from Chengru that we will experience many comforts of home while also visiting some of the oldest and most spectacular sites on Earth. We are working hard to raise money in order to represent UNM and New Mexico in a country that boasts of friendly citizens, unique cuisine and deep-rooted history.
We hope to echo Chengru's sentiments when we return, encouraging more UNM students to experience a wonderful culture.
