Women's tennis earns sixth consecutive win

The No. 38-ranked UNM women's tennis team got its sixth straight win after topping Oklahoma State University 5-2 on Saturday.

Despite losing the doubles point when Lucy Scott and Ola Abou-Zekry lost to Zana Masnic and Yawna Allen 8-4, and Nora Quintal and Jennifer Ryba lost to Lauren Simmons and Zuzanna Osinska 8-3, the Lobos took five of six matches in singles.

The No. 45-ranked Iva Gersic defeated Iryna Tkachenko 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 to take the No. 1 singles match.

She was backed up by No. 20 Maja Kovacek at the No. 2 spot who took down Zana Masnic 6-2, 6-3.

At the No. 3 spot, Quintal beat Simmons 6-4, 6-4. Scott followed that up with a win at the No. 4 spot against Allen, 6-1, 6-2.

Ryba was the last winner for the Lobos after beating Marta Tsvika in two sets 6-4, 6-4. Mackenzie White was the only Lobo not to win her singles match, falling in three sets to Jessica Collins 6-0, 5-7, 10-8.

UNM is now 6-1 on the season, while the Cowgirls dropped to 2-1.
