Staff Report
The University of Maryland signed ex-Lobo Bambale Osby to a scholarship Thursday.
As a freshman, Osby played in 31 of 33 games for the UNM men's basketball team during the 2004-2005 season. It was the same season the Lobos won the Mountain West Conference Tournament and made their first NCAA Tournament appearance in six years.
Osby, who came to UNM from Benedictine Catholic High School in Richmond, Va., quit the Lobos at the end of his freshman year citing a lack of playing time. He averaged 7.4 minutes, 1.6 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. He will have two semesters of eligibility remaining for the Terrapins.
The 6-foot-8-inch power forward spent last season at Paris (Texas) Junior College where he averaged 6.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. The Dragons went 18-4 in Region XIV before losing in the quarterfinals of the Region XIV conference tournament to Tyler (Texas) Junior College.

Maryland won the 2002 NCAA National Championship and made it to the 2001 NCAA Final Four. The Terrapins didn't make the NCAA Tournament in 2006 and lost in the opening round of the National Invitation Tournament to Manhattan University, 87-84.
Osby could not be reached for comment Thursday.
