Staff Report
The UNM women's basketball team will have a fairly different makeup next season, and not only because it lost three key seniors.
In addition to the departure of seniors Abbie Letz, Jana Francis and Judy Vogt, reserves Lindsay Black, Rachel Majewski and Wande Olude are leaving the team for various reasons.
Black and Olude will be departing due to injuries, while Majewski is leaving for personal reasons.
Black suffered a severe back injury that caused nerve damage. The injury may be serious enough to end the sophomore's basketball career. Olude, a junior,

struggled with knee and back injuries that bothered her throughout her three-year career at UNM.
The reasons for Majewski's departure are unknown, although she did suffer a foot injury that kept her sidelined for part of last season. The freshman appeared in 16 of 33 games.
All three players were scarcely used the past year. Black appeared in the most games, 31, while Olude played in 19. Olude will remain at UNM on scholarship in order to earn her degree.
Majewski and Black were released from their scholarships, and Black is expected to transfer to another basketball program provided she can recover from the back injury.
With the loss of those players to go along with the departure of the three seniors, the Lobos have some holes to fill. However, starting point guard Katie Montgomery had surgery on her knee in the offseason to help get her healthy for next season.
The Lobos also added some players who could help contribute right away. One of the notable incoming freshman is guard Georonika Jackson. The 5-foot-11-inch Jackson is a graduate of Elkins High in Sugar Land, Texas, where she averaged 12.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.
UNM head coach Don Flanagan and the departing players could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
