Letter: Constitution does not ensure minimum wage

Editor,

I am absolutely pleased with the

Senate's vote not to raise the minimum

wage. Furthermore, it should

be taken a step further and repealed

all together.

How often are those who are unskilled

or inexperienced unable to actually

find a job because of the minimum

wage? In a capitalistic society,

especially one that respects the rights

of the minorities - which include

businessmen and women - we have

the absolute choice of where and

when we want to work.

Our Constitution does not

advocate any sort of right to higher

wages. The will of the majority demands

higher wages, but that constitutes

an infringement on the freedom

of the minority of businessmen and

women - the men and women who

provide the structure for a competitive

and evolving society.

Any individual has the right to

create a business and compete with

those who have unreasonable wages.

If not, create a co-op that pays higher

wages and outcompetes the exploiters.

We, as a free capitalistic society,

cannot advocate some sort of government

coercion infringing on our right

to create success and happiness.
